Some children who are currently in Year 6 did not attend Shirley Manor when the rest of the class went swimming in Year 4. We therefore can not confirm whether they can swim or not.
Please note that there is lower attainment in swimming than previous years due to the impact of Covid-19.
Primary School Sports Funding for 2022-2023 is enabling us to continue and extend our provision by employing additional sports coaches and entering into more competitive sports competitions.
Sport at Shirley Manor
Please see below some of the exciting things we do in Sport at Shirley Manor.
Forest School
Forest School has made it possible to explore the outdoors, while the children develop in cross-curricular objectives with maths, science, and even geography. Here are some of the examples of classes enjoying adventurous activity challenges both individually and within a team. Whether it be building shelters or creating makeshift slope structures, the children are having fun with the endless possibilities of outdoor learning.
The Daily Mile
The aim of The Daily Mile is to improve the physical, social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing of our children – regardless of age, ability or red miles are ran collectively across school each week. Parents and staff are also encouraged to join in.
Its impact can be transformational – improving not only the children’s fitness, but also their concentration levels, mood, behaviour and general wellbeing.
So far almost half of the pupils of Shirley Manor have taken part in The Daily Mile, and over a hundred miles a week are being ran at the school each week! We are really proud to take part in The Daily Mile at Shirley Manor.
